Lake Duluti Tour

Arusha Town

Tour Overview

Lake Duluti is a breathtaking volcanic crater lake nestled at the foot of Mount Meru, just a short drive from the bustling center of Arusha. Formed in a volcanic crater, this serene body of water is surrounded by a lush, dense forest reserve, creating a tranquil oasis that feels worlds away from the city. It is a haven for nature lovers, bird watchers, and those seeking a peaceful retreat to reconnect with the natural world.

Our day tour is designed to offer a complete, immersive experience. Whether you choose to glide silently across the glassy waters in a canoe, observing the diverse birdlife that calls the crater rim home, or take a guided walk through the surrounding forest to learn about the local flora and unique ecosystem, Lake Duluti provides a refreshing contrast to the high-intensity trekking of Kilimanjaro. It is the perfect way to spend a day in nature, offering both relaxation and gentle exploration in one of Tanzania’s most picturesque hidden gems.

Arusha to Lake Duluti

Itinerary

Morning: Arrival and Forest Discovery

Your day begins with a convenient morning pickup from your hotel in Arusha. As we drive to the lake, you will witness the lush, green landscape of the Arusha region, characterized by coffee plantations and vibrant local farms. Upon arrival at the Lake Duluti Forest Reserve, you will be greeted by the calming sounds of the forest and the refreshing, cool air of the crater rim.

We start with a guided nature walk through the forest canopy surrounding the lake. Your guide will lead you along the well-established trails, pointing out the indigenous trees, exotic medicinal plants, and the various species of monkeys that frequent the area. The forest is a paradise for bird enthusiasts; keep your eyes peeled for kingfishers, fish eagles, and herons that are often spotted in the trees or along the water’s edge.

Following our forest walk, we descend to the water’s edge for a guided canoeing adventure. Gliding across the lake in a canoe provides a unique, intimate perspective of the crater. The water is famously calm, making it the perfect environment to relax and paddle at your own pace. You will have ample time to navigate the hidden corners of the lake, where the water reflects the towering canopy above.

After your time on the water, we will enjoy a picnic lunch on the lake shores, allowing you to soak in the peaceful atmosphere. You can spend the rest of the afternoon lounging by the water, capturing photographs of the stunning scenery, or simply enjoying the quiet of the reserve. As the sun begins to lower, we will make our short drive back to Arusha, leaving you refreshed and revitalized by your day in nature.
