5-Day Southern Circuit: Selous (Nyerere)
Water, walking and wilderness in Africa's great southern reserve: game drives, a Rufiji boat safari and a guided bush walk in Nyerere National Park.
- Nyerere (Selous)
- 5 Days / 4 Nights
- Private Safari
Tour overview
Four nights on the Rufiji, by vehicle, by boat and on foot.
Nyerere National Park, formerly known as the Selous Game Reserve, is a vast tract of relatively undisturbed wilderness where a diverse range of wildlife roams freely across varied habitats and terrain. The park is known for its giraffes – earning it the nickname "Giraffid Park" – and its sheer size, its lakes and the mighty Rufiji River give you a golden opportunity to get close to untamed crocodiles and hippos.
The park is also a superb birding destination, with more than 400 species recorded. Water, walking and wilderness are its great attractions, and this safari makes the most of all three: full-day game drives, a boat excursion on the park's waterways and a guided walking safari on foot in the company of an armed ranger.
The journey begins and ends in Dar es Salaam, with around six hours on the road each way and four nights in the park, giving you time to settle into the rhythm of the bush and enjoy the pool at camp after each day's adventures.
