Tour overview
Two million animals, one ancient journey – and a front-row seat in the Serengeti.
The Great Migration is one of the world's most iconic natural wonders. More than two million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle plod northwards from the southern plains of the Serengeti to Kenya's Masai Mara, covering over 800 km in search of fresh, soft, nutritious grazing. When they are not feeding, they march in braying columns that can stretch for up to 40 km.
The journey is full of danger. Lions, leopards and cheetahs stalk the herds, the great Nile crocodiles wait in the rivers, and the old, weak and exhausted are cleared away by hyenas, jackals and vultures. Yet the herds never give up – they are born to move, and they press on, driven by an instinct as old as the plains themselves.
This five-day safari takes you from Arusha across the Ngorongoro highlands to Olduvai Gorge and a traditional Maasai boma, then into the heart of the Serengeti for a full day of game viewing among the herds, before finishing with a descent into the Ngorongoro Crater. The best time for this safari is from early June to late October.

Day02Arusha to Serengeti National Park via Olduvai Gorge and a Maasai boma
After breakfast at around 08:00, your safari driver guide will collect you for the drive to the Serengeti, crossing the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Continue to Olduvai Gorge, the 'Cradle of Mankind', where you will have time to explore both the gorge and the Olduvai Museum – one of the most important archaeological sites on earth, holding vital evidence of prehistoric man and of the other creatures that lived here millions of years ago.
Continue to a Maasai boma, where you will be welcomed into a traditional homestead and learn about the Maasai way of life, before a hearty picnic lunch.
In the afternoon, carry on into the Serengeti with game viewing along the way, catching the golden light of sunset before you reach your camp in the central part of the park. Enjoy your first dinner and night in the African bush.

Day03Full day in Serengeti National Park
After breakfast at around 08:00, set out on a full day of game driving in this world of wonders. The Serengeti is famed for its millions of hoofed animals roaming rolling hills that undulate gently towards the Kenyan border, capped by spectacular kopjes, open grasslands, acacia woodland and the riverine forest that encloses the Mara and Grumeti rivers.
Lose yourself in the wild beauty of the park and savour every moment, pausing for a picnic lunch out on the plains. Near the rivers there is a good chance of seeing the herds crossing the dangerous waters, or massing on the banks without crossing – a crossing is always a matter of luck, as the animals move entirely by instinct.
Return to your camp for dinner and the night.

Day04Ngorongoro Crater and drive to Arusha
After breakfast at around 08:00, your guide will collect you for the drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with game viewing along the way. Descend some 610 m to the floor of the majestic Ngorongoro Crater, a grand volcanic caldera whose permanent water supply sustains an extraordinary variety of animal and plant life.
Enjoy the wild beauty of this natural sanctuary and a picnic lunch on the crater floor, followed by a short, exciting final game drive.
Then head on to your lodge in Arusha for dinner and an overnight stay.
