FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Still wondering about something? Our team in Arusha answers every message personally.

How long should a Tanzania safari be?

Most of our guests choose between 5 and 10 days on safari, often followed by a few days on Zanzibar. Shorter trips work well for the northern parks; longer trips let you add the Serengeti's more remote areas or the southern parks without rushing.

What wildlife will I see?

Tanzania is home to lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, hippos, giraffes, zebras and huge herds of wildebeest, as well as more than 1,000 bird species. Your chances of seeing the Big Five are excellent in the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti.

What vehicles do you use?

We use spacious, extended 4x4 safari vehicles with pop-up roofs, so everyone has a window seat and a clear view. Fewer guests per vehicle means better photographs and more time at each sighting.

What is the accommodation like?

Every trip can be built at our Silver, Gold or Platinum level, from comfortable mid-range lodges to the finest luxury camps. All of them are clean, safe and chosen by our team. Browse our lodges and camps.

Which Kilimanjaro route should I choose?

The Machame and Lemosho routes have excellent scenery and good acclimatisation. Marangu is the only route with huts. Rongai is quieter and drier, and Umbwe is the steepest. Longer routes give better summit success. Compare them on our Kilimanjaro page.

When is the best time to climb Kilimanjaro?

Kilimanjaro can be climbed all year, but January to mid-March and June to October are the driest and most popular months.

When is the best time to visit Zanzibar?

June to October and December to February are dry, sunny and warm. March to May is the main rainy season.

What can I do on Zanzibar?

Explore the historic Stone Town, visit a spice farm, snorkel or dive the coral reefs, swim from white-sand beaches, see red colobus monkeys in Jozani Forest, sail on a traditional dhow or simply relax.

Do I need to tip?

Tipping is not compulsory, but it is a welcome thank-you for good service. A typical tip for a safari driver-guide is US$15 to 20 per traveller per day, and US$10 to 15 per day for lodge staff in the tip box. See our money and tipping guide.

Is Tanzania safe?

Yes. Tanzania is peaceful and politically stable, and its people are famously welcoming. Read our safety guide for practical tips.

Can you plan a private, tailor-made trip?

Yes: every trip we run can be private and tailored to your dates, interests and budget. Tell us about your trip and we will send you a personal plan.
