Overview
Mahale Tented Camp is an intimate safari retreat on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, set beneath the forested slopes of the Mahale Mountains in one of Tanzania's most remote wildlife destinations.
The camp combines the atmosphere of classic tented safari accommodation with the extraordinary natural setting of the lake and mountains. Days here revolve around the forest, chimpanzees, clear lake waters and the peaceful rhythm of a wilderness destination far removed from Tanzania's busier safari circuits.
The main attraction is the opportunity to trek into the Mahale forest in search of habituated chimpanzees, but the experience extends well beyond the forest. Guests can kayak, explore the lake, walk through the surrounding wilderness and return to camp for relaxed lakeside meals and spectacular sunsets.
